DESCRIPTION

The Gigliotti Model P Bb Clarinet Mouthpiece is one of the most respected and sought-after classical clarinet mouthpieces ever produced. Designed by Anthony Gigliotti, the legendary principal clarinetist of the Philadelphia Orchestra for more than four decades, the Model P reflects his vision of the ideal American orchestral clarinet sound.

The renowned "P" facing was Mr. Gigliotti's preferred personal setup, engineered to produce a rich, dark, and focused tonal character while maintaining exceptional clarity, projection, and stability. Its carefully balanced design allows performers to achieve a broad palette of tonal colors without sacrificing center, response, or intonation.

Crafted from premium hard rubber (ebonite) using traditional French-bore design principles, the Model P utilizes high-quality blanks manufactured by J.J. Babbitt. The precision facing features a tip opening of approximately 1.00mm–1.03mm with the standard 34mm (P34) facing length, creating an efficient air stream that delivers excellent articulation, dependable intonation, and an even response throughout the full range of the instrument.

The mouthpiece's slender beak profile provides a comfortable embouchure, making it ideal for extended rehearsals, lessons, and performances. When paired with medium-hard to hard reeds, the Model P produces the warm, velvety sound and refined control that have made it a longtime favorite among professional orchestral musicians, advanced students, educators, and serious amateur performers.

This particular mouthpiece dates from the late 1990s and is in very good structural condition with no cracks, chips, or significant damage. A previous owner added a hard-rubber mouthpiece cushion for enhanced playing comfort. The package includes the original Selmer metal ligature and a generic clarinet mouthpiece cap.

Highly regarded for its refined tonal character, consistent response, and direct connection to one of America's most influential clarinetists, the Gigliotti Model P remains a benchmark classical mouthpiece for musicians pursuing a traditional orchestral sound.
