DESCRIPTION
The Otto Brückner Model 400124 is a fractional-size student violin built for young players who aren't ready for a full-size 4/4 but need a properly proportioned instrument that can keep up with their progress. Frequently identified with the NS40012 series, it was produced in China and then finished, adjusted and prepared for the U.S. educational market through Scherl & Roth and its former parent organization, United Musical Instruments (UMI).
Rather than being put together as a basic discount instrument, this violin uses traditional violin tonewoods — a solid spruce top with solid maple back and sides — along with a maple bridge and genuine ebony fingerboard and pegs. The ebony fittings are durable and stable, holding up to normal swings in temperature and humidity the way a serious student instrument should. The traditional Stradivarius-inspired body pattern gives it a balanced, clear voice with moderate projection, which helps students working on bow control, intonation, tone production and ensemble playing.
This particular instrument carries serial number 71904XX and its original U.S. workshop setup from July 2001. It shows honest signs of wear from use by many different players: minor feather scratches across the body, including the scroll box, and some finish wear scars on the top and bottom rims of the kind new players tend to leave behind. There are no dings, pings or dents in the wood. The "E" string peg appears to have been replaced but functions as needed, and our technician has adjusted the violin for general playing condition.
The package includes the original hard-shell case and a new wood 1/2-size bow — please note the bow will need to be rosined before playing. For a developing violinist stepping past a basic beginner outfit, the Otto Brückner 400124 is a well-proportioned, traditionally built option with real workshop preparation behind it.
