DESCRIPTION
The J-45 is the best-selling Gibson acoustic of all time. Nicknamed "The Workhorse" and first introduced in 1942, it's the cornerstone of Gibson's round-shoulder dreadnought line and one of the most recognizable acoustic voices in recorded music. World-renowned for its full, balanced expression, warm bass, and excellent projection, the J-45 Standard carries that legacy forward with incredible dynamic range, warm mids, and tight, punchy low end.
The J-45 Standard pairs a solid Sitka spruce top with solid mahogany back and sides, braced with traditional hand-scalloped X-bracing. The top is multi-ply bound while the back gets single-ply binding. A mahogany neck with the fast, comfortable SlimTaper profile is joined to the body with a compound dovetail neck-to-body joint for superior tonal transfer and sustain, and it's capped with a rosewood fingerboard carrying 20 standard frets and simple mother-of-pearl dot inlays.
Up top, the headstock wears the Gibson logo in mother-of-pearl and Grover Rotomatic tuning machines with kidney buttons, which team up with the TUSQ nut for smooth, reliable tuning and excellent stability. The traditional belly-up rosewood bridge is fitted with a TUSQ saddle and bridge pins, and a teardrop pickguard plus gloss nitrocellulose lacquer finish complete the classic look that's been a musical and cultural icon since day one.
For plugged-in duty, the J-45 Standard is fitted with an L.R. Baggs VTC under-saddle pickup and preamp system with volume and tone controls mounted inside the soundhole — easy for the player to reach and all but invisible to the audience. With natural-sounding electronics onboard and a Gibson hardshell case in the box, it's stage- and studio-ready the moment you open the lid.
