DESCRIPTION

Not every ES-335 fan is after the same guitar. Just as the Les Paul Standard 50s and 60s let players choose the era that suits them, Gibson now offers the same choice to ES-335 players. The ES-335 50s delivers the classic features of the earliest ES-335 models, first introduced in 1958.

At its core is a semi-hollow, thinline body built from three-ply maple, poplar, and maple with a solid maple centerblock that increases sustain while greatly reducing feedback. Single-ply cream binding wraps the top and back, and the whole thing is finished in gloss nitrocellulose lacquer. The mahogany neck wears a beefier Rounded C profile that feels satisfyingly substantial in the hand, topped with a bound rosewood fingerboard, 22 medium jumbo frets, and simple acrylic dot inlays that mirror the look of the prized "dot neck" models.

Tone comes from a pair of Custombucker pickups loaded with Alnico 3 magnets, renowned for capturing the magic of those early, highly prized Patent Applied For humbuckers from the late 1950s. Each pickup is paired with its own hand-wired 500k volume and tone control, and a three-way toggle switch opens up the wide tonal range the ES-335 is famous for. Vintage Deluxe tuners with keystone buttons work with the Graph Tech nut to keep tuning stable, while the ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic bridge and aluminum Stop Bar tailpiece add sustain and allow full adjustment of action height and individual string intonation.

Finishing touches include a '59-style five-ply long pickguard, Top Hat knobs, nickel hardware, and a mother-of-pearl Gibson logo and crown inlay on the headstock. A Gibson hardshell case and accessory kit complete the package. If you prefer the larger neck profile and cosmetics of those earliest ES-335 models that players have loved for over 60 years, this is the one.
