DESCRIPTION
The Gibson Dove was first introduced in 1962 as the second square-shoulder model in the Gibson line, following the Hummingbird in 1960. While the two share a similar body outline and bird-themed cosmetics, the Hummingbird traditionally uses mahogany while the Dove is typically maple — and the Dove's longer 25.5" scale length gives it a brighter, punchier tone and a tighter playing feel.
The Dove Mahogany is a new take on that classic. It keeps all of the visual appeal that makes the model instantly recognizable, but swaps mahogany in for maple on the back and sides. The result sits between the two icons: the midrange focus of a mahogany body paired with the brilliance and snap that the Dove's longer scale length is known for. A satin nitrocellulose lacquer finish gives it the look and smooth playing feel of a long-cherished musical companion.
The mahogany neck carries a comfortable Round profile and a bound Indian rosewood fretboard with a 12" radius, 20 standard frets, and mother of pearl split parallelogram inlays, joined to the body with a compound dovetail joint fitted using hot hide glue. The rosewood bridge wears the traditional Dove shape with two mother of pearl dove inlays, the nut and saddle are bone, the bridge pins are TUSQ, and Grover Rotomatics with keystone buttons handle tuning. The headstock is dressed with a mother of pearl Gibson logo and Crown, and the two-ply bell truss rod cover is engraved "DOVE."
L.R. Baggs VTC electronics come pre-installed, with volume and tone controls mounted inside the soundhole — easy for the player to reach and all but invisible to the audience. Paired with the included hardshell case, the Dove Mahogany is ready for the stage and studio the moment you open the lid.
