DESCRIPTION
Alex Lifeson needs no introduction. His playing helped define the sound of progressive rock, and now his iconic 1976 Gibson ES-355 lives on in a stunning new reissue from Epiphone. Part of the Inspired by Gibson Custom Collection, it's more than just another signature model — it's a tribute to Alex's tone, feel, and fearless creativity that helped power Rush through decades of innovation.
The Alex Lifeson 1976 ES-355 Reissue is built around a five-ply semi-hollow body of maple and poplar with multi-ply binding around the top and back for the elegant look befitting the top-of-the-line ES-355. A solid maple centerblock adds sustain and greatly increases feedback resistance, delivering the versatile tone ES models are famous for. The three-piece maple neck features a volute for added strength at the neck/headstock joint, just like the 70s-era original, and its Slim C profile is fast and easy to play. The bound ebony fretboard adds a touch of brightness while enhancing the exceptionally smooth feel, and carries mother-of-pearl large block inlays over 22 medium jumbo frets.
Up top, the Gibson-style "open book" headstock is multi-ply bound and inlaid in mother of pearl with the Epiphone logo and Custom split diamond, while die-cast tuners with keystone buttons and a Graph Tech nut keep tuning stable. The truss rod cover is engraved with Alex Lifeson's name. Gold hardware — including a harmonica-style Tune-O-Matic bridge, gold pickup covers, and a gold Maestro Vibrola — completes the refined look and adds expressive vibrato with a push or pull of the bar.
Lifeson's tone is faithfully recreated by two USA-made Gibson T-Type humbuckers, each with individual volume and tone controls using CTS potentiometers and Mallory tone capacitors, selected by a Switchcraft three-way toggle. A mono Varitone switch opens up additional tonal options, and a mini toggle lets you preset it and bypass or engage it at will, all wired to a Switchcraft 1/4" output jack. Finished in gloss Alpine White, it delivers Custom Shop feel without the Custom Shop price and arrives in a custom hardshell case with a black exterior bearing a reproduction of Alex Lifeson's signature, a red plush interior, and gold hardware.
