DESCRIPTION
Electro-Harmonix pedals have always attracted tweakers and innovators, and few fit that description better than Adrian Belew. After career-launching stints with Frank Zappa and David Bowie, and during his collaborations with Talking Heads and Tom Tom Club, Adrian found the EHX Echoflanger — a bucket brigade-based time and pitch modulation pedal that could deliver lush chorus and flanging one minute and completely warped, wiggly noise the next. It became the source of some of his most famous sounds: the steel drum guitar on Tom Tom Club's "Genius of Love," the elephant on King Crimson's "Elephant Talk," and the rhino on his solo track "The Lone Rhinoceros."
The Adrian Belew Echoflanger Reissue is a limited-edition tribute to that original, with all of its bells, whistles, warbles and extremes intact, plus modern construction and a few new tricks — including one Adrian discovered himself. It's equal parts smooth operator and agent of chaos, covering classic chorus and flanger territory while letting you push those effects well past their normal limits.
The original four modes are here — Filter Matrix, Flange, Chorus and Slap Back — joined by two new combo modes: Slap Back + Filter Matrix, and Adrian's signature Chorus + Flange, based on the "in-between" spot he found by parking the MODE knob between FLANGE and CHORUS on his vintage unit. Filter Matrix disengages the LFO for a fixed comb filter and manual flanging, Flange delivers classic sweeping whoosh, Chorus offers shimmering modulated echo and rotary-style effects, and Slap Back strips the modulation for a quick echo.
FEEDBACK dials the intensity from gentle modulation to self-oscillating sirens, while RATE, WIDTH and TUNE shape the speed, range and center point of the modulation. VOLUME sets the output level, and a rear-panel BLEND switch removes the dry signal for more intense vibrato-type sounds. Stereo outputs and True Bypass with mechanical relays round out the package, and a power adapter is included.
