DESCRIPTION

The BOSS EX-4 Effects Expander is built for players who curate their pedalboards carefully and need every slot to earn its place. In one streamlined stompbox, it adds 120 premium BOSS effects to whatever you're already running — overdrive and distortion, modulation, delay, reverb, bass-tuned effects, and cult favorites like Slow Gear and Slicer.

Up to four effects can run at once, including multiple instances of the same effect, and you can arrange them in series, parallel, or wet/dry configurations. Dedicated utility blocks — foot volume, two noise suppressors, send/return, and divider/mixer — can be dropped anywhere in the chain, and an independent global EQ handles overall sound shaping. The built-in effect loop lets you fold external pedals into the EX-4's chain and reorder them as needed.

Getting to a usable sound is fast. The Gear Suite feature gives every effect type multiple pre-made settings with professionally tuned parameters, all reachable with the turn of a knob, and you can edit and save your own versions for instant recall. A full-color 2.4-inch display shows the whole signal chain, while dedicated FX buttons — color-matched to each effect on screen — toggle blocks with a press and open editing with a long press.

Live control comes from rugged dual-function footswitches ringed by a new color LED system, so you can always see what each switch is doing. Assignments can be set system-wide or per memory and include effect on/off, memory up/down, master bypass, and tap tempo. Manual and Memory modes cover both stompbox-style and preset-based workflows, with 128 guitar and bass presets plus 128 user memories. Around back, four audio jacks handle mono or stereo rigs (two can serve as the effect loop), with jacks for two footswitches or an expression pedal and space-saving TRS MIDI I/O for deeper integration with other pedals, switching systems, and external clocks.
