The Alvarez AED90ce is a serious dreadnought with real character and rich tone. Its AA North American solid Sitka spruce top and Macassar ebony body deliver plenty of volume and low-end while keeping the trebles clear and articulate. Between the premium tonewoods and the ebony bevel armrest, this is a striking guitar with a high-end vibe and a big voice.
The FS6 forward-shifted bracing pattern opens up a larger soundboard area to heighten vibration, working alongside the high-quality Sitka top and premium components throughout to create an engaging playing experience. The cutaway makes the upper frets easy to reach, and the ebony bevel armrest — slightly thicker on the Dreadnought than on Alvarez's Grand Auditoriums — takes the edge off long playing sessions.
Plugged in, the AED90ce runs the LR Baggs StagePro Bronze: a small-footprint, side-mounted EQ built around the renowned LR Baggs Element under-saddle pickup. The low-profile unit gives you a large backlit tuner, volume, bass and treble controls and a phase switch, with the battery box built into the end pin jack compartment so a simple push gets you to the battery.
The AED90ce is part of the Artist Elite series, Alvarez's line of solid-top guitars with a custom-style vibe. Exotic woods, bevel armrests and wood bindings give the series its rich look, finished in a flawless, thinly applied gloss that lets the top respond. Alvarez grades its solid tops independently of its suppliers, cures its woods over months or years, then adds an extra thermo-kiln drying stage called ATR (Advanced Tonal Response) — a form of oxygen-controlled torrefaction that removes additional moisture, saps and sugars for a more stable, drier, quicker and more open-sounding instrument from day one.
