DESCRIPTION
The King Cleveland 600 is a student B♭ trumpet made by the H. N. White Company of Cleveland, Ohio, under the Cleveland brand — the company's student and entry-level line. Based on its serial number 3078XX, this example dates to approximately 1950–1951, making it a distinctive piece of mid-century American instrument making.
Designed for dependable performance and durability, the Cleveland 600 uses the straightforward construction and mechanical reliability associated with H. N. White instruments: a single-brace leadpipe, a standard brass bell flare and a vintage valve block with a sturdy mechanical design. Despite its student-level positioning, vintage Cleveland trumpets are appreciated for their warm, rich tonal character and solid playing response.
This particular trumpet has seen some action over the many decades. There are considerable scratches, pings and slight dings throughout, and the bell shows some rim wear around its circumference with evidence of light repair done at some point during its active years. Our technician has adjusted the trumpet for general playing conditions and installed new spit valve cork, valve felts and a new third-valve ring.
The outfit also has an especially unique presentation: the included case has been artistically decorated by its previous owner, giving this trumpet a personalized, one-of-a-kind appearance that adds to its vintage character and history.
