Description
Any fan of the venerable S series is sure to see the appeal of this guitar. The team at the Japan Custom Shop was looking to accomplish several things with this build. First, take an S model but build it in such a way that could only be accomplished with time-intensive hand work. The team decided to focus on the S model’s most desirable attribute: its light weight, and added hand-carved relief cuts, creating a type of exposed chambering. The results are not only practical in that they make this guitar one of the lightest in the 50th Anniversary Collection, but they also provided a highly contemporary, sculpture-like appearance. Additionally, the entire body is made of Flamed Maple, and the flame in the wood runs across all of the relief cuts. A luxurious Transparent Blue finish covers the entirety of the instrument, even the fretboard. It’s a phenomenally stunning instrument and a true one-of-a-kind.
FUELING THE FLAMES
This guitar is highly unique among the 50th Anniversary Collection in that it is built entirely from Flamed Maple. Most of the other instruments feature an assortment of different tone woods, but, from the body to the neck and fingerboard, the viewer is treated to a panorama of stunning Flamed Maple figuring.
RIGHT OUT OF THE BLUE
A Flamed Maple fretboard is generally a captivating addition to any instrument, but when that fretboard is further enhanced with a Transparent Blue finish, it achieves a look and high-end appeal few other instruments can, and that is certainly the case with this S model.
A WEIGHT OFF YOUR SHOULDERS
Serving as both the functional and aesthetic highlight of this guitar, these weight relief cuts are hand- carved into the body and actually run through it, from the front to the back. They add some enticing visual complexity, while also taking what’s already a light instrument and scaling back its weight even further.
