NOTE: I gave #8 rating for sound because I think the only guitars deserving a 10 would be the very high-end studio recording guitars. Anyway, I had been looking for a smaller bodied 12 string for my 11 yr. old daughter (aleady an awesome player). Since the dreadnaughts are too large for her she tried a $700 Breedlove and a $2000 Taylor, both in Concert size and both with solid spruce tops. Of course the Taylor sound and neck was great, but the Breedlove was a better fit and easier for her to play (thank goodness). I then found this Takamine - the minute she played it, it was obvious that this was the one. The sound projection was much louder, the action was perfect, and the neck felt as good as the Taylor. However, the sound tone was not quite as bright as the previous 2 with spruce tops - whatever your preference is. She had her pick and she chose the Takamine. If you were in the studio one might want the Taylor, but listening to her play this guitar straight up it was plain to see that this Takamine blew the competition away. This was the first EAN40C12 that the store owner had ever received and he felt that it was as good as his much higher end guitars. A truly awesome solid wood guitar
