Whether you're practicing at home or away, performing solo or in a band, the Yamaha P-155 digital piano offers professional quality sound with our legendary piano touch. Thanks to the top-shelf Yamaha digital piano technologies like advanced sampling methods and the ultra-expressive GH (Graded Hammer) keyboard, musicians don't have to choose between portability and piano quality-the quality you expect from a company that's been building world-class acoustic pianos for over a century. In the P-155, Yamaha crafts that heritage into a slim cabinet.
Pure CF Sampling for superb tonality
Yamaha technicians selected a CFIIIS full concert grand with the highest sound quality, and tuned it to the finest possible condition. They then used our unique Pure CF Sampling technique to sample all of its sounds, in order to create the sound on this instrument. As a result, you enjoy the same natural tonal response as a top-quality piano.
4-level Advanced Wave Memory (AWM) Dynamic Stereo Sampling
The AWM (Advanced Wave Memory) is a sampling system which creates sound close to that of an acoustic instrument by using digital technology to record the instrument sound and applying high-quality digital filter technology to the recorded audio samples. The waveform of the sound created by playing the key of an acoustic piano differs depending on the playing strength from pianissimo to fortissimo. The AWM Dynamic Stereo Sampling analyzes these samples can produce such dynamic nuances by recording samples of various playing strengths. The greater the number of samples used, the higher the expressive quality and potential becomes.
Key-Off samples, Stereo Sustain samples and Damper Resonance
If you close your eyes while playing a grand piano, you'll find its sound is a bit more complicated than "note-on-note-off." Yamaha has gone to great lengths to capture these sonic artifacts in the P-155. These meticulous efforts include recording a felt damper coming to rest on a vibrating string when a note is released (Key Off Samples), or reproducing the sound of the open strings that wash over your performance when using the damper pedal (Stereo Sustain Samples and Damper Resonance).
128-note polyphony (max.)
Conventional digital pianos quickly run out of notes during fast, dense legato passages: sustained notes are cut off as the instrument "steals" notes to make room for new notes. A maximum of up to 128-note can be played at once.
Graded Hammer (GH) keyboard
Just as on an actual grand piano, the lower keys are heavy in touch and the higher keys are light, with all the natural gradations in between.
USB Direct Play
Simply connect a USB flash memory device to the instrument, and your favorite songs in MIDI format are ready to be played in random or sequence.
USB TO DEVICE Terminal
Insert a USB flash memory in the USB TO DEVICE terminal on the instrument. It would let you save or load the registered settings and user songs created on the instrument, as well as read data from the connected device.
Built-in Stereo Speaker System
This instrument uses highly efficient amplifiers that pack more sound into a lighter digital piano. With 12 watts per channel, these keyboards are ready to go whenever you are.
50 Preset Piano Songs
A selection of 50 different piano songs is provided for your listening pleasure. These recordings were chosen for their beauty as well as their functionality. Since many of the songs are classic piano pieces, anyone taking lessons can listen to them for reference.
The keys are weighted—heavier in the lower registers and lighter in the upper notes—just like an acoustic piano. And, the P155 sounds like a real piano. The natural-sounding four-layer piano sample is a breakthrough at this price range. Depending on how hard a note is struck, one of four recordings will play, offering an unprecedented level of dynamic range and tonal expression for a digital piano. A new Damper Resonance effect emulates the real harmonic overtones of each individual note, taking acoustic realism to the next level.
"The P Series has established itself as the best-selling line of slab pianos," says Dane Madsen, Digital Piano marketing manager, Yamaha Keyboard Division. "The P155 raises the bar for the entire category with more amplification, more sample layers on the piano voice and more polyphony. And the USB song storage means that you can easily record and share more of your music than ever before."
Computer-compatible features include a songwriting tool for jotting down quick piano recordings and quickly importing them into a computer via USB input, which makes it a snap to transfer song files to a PC or Mac. It also works in the reverse: play any Standard MIDI file using the P155's incredible piano voices.
Because it takes up so little space, the P155 is ideal for customers who live in apartments. When it's time to turn up the volume, the P155 relies on built-in speakers powered by a high-efficiency stereo amplifier, but it can also be connected to an external amplifier through 1/4-in. line-level outputs with variable volume control. If volume is an issue, just plug in headphones.
The P155 features easy-to-set split and layer modes, 128-note polyphony, along with 50 built-in songs of standard piano repertoire, recorded with the right and left hands on separate tracks. The two-track song recorder is ideal for capturing ideas or reviewing performances.
Step Up to Premium Yamaha Touch & Tone
Whether you're practicing at home or away,
performing solo or in a band, the Yamaha P-155 digital piano offers professional quality
sound with our legendary piano touch. Thanks to the top-shelf Yamaha digital piano
technologies like advanced sampling methods and the ultra-expressive GH (Graded Hammer) keyboard,
musicians don't have to choose between portability and piano quality—the quality you expect from
a company that's been building world-class acoustic pianos for over a century. In the P-155,
Yamaha crafts that heritage into a slim cabinet available in three contemporary finishes.
Dynamic Expression, Realistic Sound
Hand-crafted Pianos, High-quality Voices
To ensure the finest grand piano sound for the P-155, we went straight to the source: Yamaha's finest 9-foot concert grand, a hand-picked CFIIIS. Next, a master piano technician painstakingly tuned and regulated the CFIIIS to sonic perfection. Then we applied our Pure CF Sampling technology to accurately capture every aspect of the CFIIIS sound, keeping post-processing to an absolute minimum to maintain sonic integrity throughout. The result is a truly authentic grand piano sound with powerful, dynamic bass, warm mid-range and crystal-clear highs.
Using Yamaha's Dynamic Stereo Sampling (DSS) technology, the incredibly natural 4-level piano sample is a breakthrough achievement for digital pianos. It means that, depending on how hard you strike a note, you will hear one of four piano recordings on each and every key for an unprecedented level of dynamic range and tonal expression. Playing softly doesn't simply lower the volume; it produces the quiet recordings of piano notes. And likewise, playing more forcefully triggers separate samples at different levels.
Ascension to Detail
If you close your eyes while playing a grand piano, you'll find its sound is a bit more complicated than "note-on-noteoff." Yamaha has gone to great lengths to capture these sonic artifacts in the P-155. These meticulous efforts include recording a felt damper coming to rest on a vibrating string when a note is released [Key Off Samples], or reproducing the sound of the open strings that wash over your performance when using the damper pedal [Stereo Sustain Samples and Damper Resonance].
Look inside the lid of a grand piano. Different sized strings require different sized hammers. Different sized hammers have different weights. The keyboard of the P-155 utilizes Yamaha's GH (Graded Hammer) technology to reproduce the true "feel" of a grand piano keyboard action, with heavier touch in the lower keys, lighter touch in the higher keys, and subtle gradations of weight and response throughout. Thanks to the input of concert-level, professional pianists during its development, the GH keyboard features superb balance and remarkable consistency. Performing or practicing on a GH keyboard properly develops and maintains an artist's technique for making the transition between P-155 and an acoustic grand.
Perfection Made Practical
