Roland HPD15 Handsonic Percussion Controller
The Roland HPD-15 "HandSonic" Hand Percussion Pad bring Roland’s acclaimed V-drum technology to the world of hand percussion. This incredible instrument does it all--from organic exotic percussion sounds from around the world to effected techno noises and drums. The HPD-15 provides about 500 internal sounds, playable from any of its 15 pads, two ribbon controls, infrared D-Beam or external inputs. AND get ready for tons of expressive performance features. Electronic systems have always treated instruments like congas, bongos, timbales, etc. as static sounds to be played with sticks. The HPD-15 emulates the unique performance characteristics of these instruments via a 10-inch rubber playing surface, which is divided into 15 pads. Its built-in pressure sensor allows muting and pitch control to be performed as they would be on an acoustic instrument. The main pad also senses position, which can produce subtle changes in timbre based on the area of the pad struck.
The HPD-15 HandSonic is an electronic hand percussion multi-pad with triggering capabilities derived from breakthrough V-drums technology. Divided into 15 parts, the HPD-15 allows hand percussionists to play up to 300 realistic acoustic and electronic percussion sounds -- 15 simultaneously -- with all the sensitivity that the Roland V-drums are famous for.
You won't believe how expressive this instrument is! The HPD-15 provides trigger pedal inputs for Kick & Hi-Hat (KD-7 and FD-7). Set up some patches with a conventional drum set up; use the same pedals for expressive control on other patches. The HandSonic has killer dedicated Reverb and Multi-Effects which can be stored to any of 80 User Patches. For even more expression control, the HDP-15 provides a D-Beam controller, dual ribbon controllers, and three modifier knobs for realtime control of tone and pitch. A metronome function and preset patterns are included for training purposes. The HDP-15 also features a built-in sequencer for recording User patterns, MIDI In & Out, a stereo output, phones jack and a footswitch jack. Either as a striking chameleon capable of emulating a roomful of traditional instruments or as a brand new way of creating and performing modern sounds, the HandSonic is a brand new category of instrument for the forward thinking percussionist.

The Pad That Plays Like Percussionists Do
Most electronic percussion pads are designed to be played with sticks. That’s great for traditional drums, but not the ideal for more dynamic instruments like congas, tabla, or a guiro. The HPD-15 changes all that by using new Roland technology to convincingly model the unique performance characteristics of these instruments via a 10" rubber pad that can be played by hand. This pad is divided into 15 parts for simultaneous control of 15 different sounds. Thanks to a built-in pressure sensor, percussionists can perform muting and pitch control as they would on an acoustic instrument such as a conga. The main pad also supports Positional Sensing, which can produce subtle changes in timbre based on the area of the pad struck.
Move 300 Instruments without Breaking a Sweat
For most percussionists, carrying a multitude of instruments to gigs can be a major headache. Not with the HPD-15. With 300 internal sounds, this electronic percussion pad can be used in almost any musical context–all without breaking a sweat. There are percussion sounds from all over the world, including Latin countries, southeast Asia, China, India, the Middle East, Africa, plus a variety of other ethnic sounds. For even more diversity, the HPD-15 features a collection of electronic drum sounds and sound effects, while onboard reverb and multi-effects allow for even more creativity. Users are free to save their sounds to any of 80 User Patches.
Massive Realtime Control
A host of powerful realtime controllers make playing the HPD-15 even more expressive, and can be used to modulate pitch, timbre, and other instrument parameters. With its exclusive D-Beam controller, percussionists can trigger the HPD-15’s sounds or alter an instrument’s tuning simply by waving their hands over an infrared beam of light. The addition of the D-Beam makes performing with the HPD-15 even more eye-catching. Other realtime modifiers include two ribbon controllers, an expression pedal input, and three control knobs for nearly unlimited expression.
Built-in Sequencer
The HPD-15’s onboard sequencer offers a variety of Preset patterns which can be used for playing along or for practice purposes. These patterns cover many different musical styles and can easily be slowed down to a comfortable tempo. In addition, the sequencer can record realtime performances into any of its User memory locations for instant playback and storage. The HPD-15 also features a MIDI In and Out for integration with external sequencers and other MIDI gear.
