The player will immediately notice the ability to play low-range notes without loss of volume or increased resistance. The rose brass bell imparts a rich, dark sound. The TR160 is responsive and flexible for use as a tenor, yet heavy enough to fill in on bass. This model is remarkably well balanced and comfortable to hold.

From One of Our Customers: "I spoke with Bob before I ordered because I needed some technical help. He was very knowledgable and pleasant to talk to. I could have ordered elsewhere, but I ended up ordering from you because of my experience, since it's so rare to find help like Bob"
SURPRISE: What A Great Trombone!!! The Holton TR 160 is the best large bore tenor trombone I've ever played! I was not very familiar with the Holton trombones and had been playing a Bach 42 open wrap and then a 42 with a Thayer valve. They are fine trombones, but the Holton 160 is much more flexible with a great focused tone and intonation. It really projects! The range is very easy and even from pedals to the high range (some other reviews comment on the high range, but I find it easier than on other horns). The F attachment is fast and matches the straight horn better than ANY trigger I've played, Thayer included. The slide is extremely smooth and fast, and is a little narrower than on the Bach, which I like. The nickel silver slide is lighter than a standard Bach slide, but not as light as their light-weight slide. Try Reka SuperSlide on it it's even better than Slide-O-Mix, which is terrific. I wasn't sure if I would like the 9 inch bell, but it responds very well. The tone is very full and rich without being too heavy. I have the option of choosing from all the major brands: Bach, Conn, Benge, Yamaha, Edwards, King, etc. and the Holton is easily my favorite. What a surprise!!! Great price, too!
