MARTIN HD28VS DetailsMartin HD28VS The HD28VS is the 12-fret, "S-shaped" version of the HD28VR. The longer body dimensions, wider neck (1 7/8" at the nut; 2 1/8" at the 12th fret) and slotted headstock combine to produce a warmer, deeper tone than standard rosewood Dreadnoughts. Although this guitar style was produced as early as 1917, and was the original Dreadnought size, it gained its greatest popularity among folk performers in the 1960's. (Peter Yarrow of Peter, Paul & Mary, in particular, is credited with the revival of interest in this model). Like its 14-fret cousin, the HD28VS features East Indian back and sides, scalloped-braced Sitka top, genuine ebony fingerboard and bridge, diamonds & squares position markers, tortoise-style pickguard, "zig-zag" or "zipper" backstrip and, of course, Martin's famous herringbone top trim. Other custom appointments include grained ivoroid bindings & heelcap, aging toner on the top, long through-bridge saddle, and Waverly/Sloan vintage tuners.
