Ebony has been used for hundreds of years in the manufacture of musical instruments due to its superior tone, and Hohner's 800 series acoustic guitars feature rich Striped Ebony back and sides. The long sought-after tone, with its warm low end and crisp highs, provide an overall evenness of tone similar to Brazilian Rosewood (often referred to as the "Holy Grail" of tonewoods). This combined with a Solid Spruce top with modified Scalloped X bracing results in an instrument with extraordinarily balanced sound.
