I've played on many high end drumsets, DWs, Yamaha Recording Customs, Slingerlands, Vintage Ludwigs... And these drums were awesome and at par with those drums. They resonate very well. I'm not really sure about the stock heads though as i changed it the moment i got them to Remo Fiberskyn Ambassadors. They are good sounding drums and they are very boomy sounding. However the not very fond of the mini GTS system, although i like the idea of the drums able to bounce a little to resonate but i find that it makes tuning hard as tension sometimes are not as even as it should be as it only clings on to 2 tension rods and not the lugs. The premuffled bass heads are great for rock but will need a pillow if playing jazz. A lot of BOOM, not enough Thud. The 5 lug 12 tom makes looking for aftermarket parts a hassle. i've no idea why Gretsch is still using 5 lug 12 toms even on some on their higher end models. The wrap is very beautiful and very unique. Looks great under stage lights or from afar or something. And when close, it looks like a tottally diferent wrap which still looks beautiful. However, the wrap is impossible to find so if you ever need to add on a drum, good luck. But besides that, it sounds great and is at par with some higher level drums. These are the best entry level drums ever, if they are entry level at all... I would say they are intermediate level...
