EDIROL PCRM80 Details
The PCR-M80 is a revised version of the popular PCR-80 MIDI Keyboard Controller. Like the PCR-80, the PCR-M80 offers direct connection to the computer through USB, 61-Keys, 27 assignable MIDI controllers, a software editor, MIDI input and output, and both sustain and expression pedal connections. Some advancement the PCR-M80 has made over the PCR-80 includes the addition of velocity curves, switchable MIDI interface, and a new key-action found on Roland's higher-end synths. The PCR-M80's key-action has been refined to produce even less mechanical noise than its predecessor and offer a consistent, playable feel. The keys themselves are slightly more rounded to keep your fingers from tripping over the keys during quick glissandi.
High Quality Mechanism for the Serious Player
With a newly designed key mechanism --- taken from Roland's 30 years of synthesizer development --- players can control a wide dynamic range with incredible subtlety. The re-designed key assemblies have a rounded shape for better reaction to the player’s touch and more comfortable glissando, plus changes have been made to reduce the already low mechanical noise of the PCR-80 and eliminate vertical shake on the key strokes. The newly developed pitch bend and modulation design offers you easier and more expressive control. All these features add up to a keyboard that even the most discerning player can appreciate.
Comprehensive Connectivity for Maximizing Player's Performance
Connect everything with one USB cable. Since the power is supplied from the computer, no AC adaptor is needed. The same USB connection provides MIDI IN and OUT ports that allow the keyboard to function as a MIDI interface to other external MIDI devices. It addition to this, all the information from keys and controllers can be sent through the MIDI OUT port so that you can control both software and external MIDI devices at the same time (MIDI Interface mode = OFF). With the interface mode turned on, the PCR-M80/M50/M30 can control multiple applications at the same time. Control your DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) and software synthesizer at the same time. The MIDI processing in the PCRM80/ M50/M30 is compatible with FPT (Fast Processing Technology). This technology doesn't depend on music application you are using. It provides stable, high speed, low latency, and low jitter MIDI transmission.
27 Individual Fully-assignable Controllers
The PCR-M80/M50/M30 provides you with 8 knobs, 8 sliders, 9 buttons, and 2 pedal ports. These controllers can be assigned to any MIDI message, Control Change (CC), RPN, NRPN, System Exclusive and more. You get to choose what parameters to control in your MIDI hardware and software to create the perfect playing environment.
Twelve Selectable Velocity Curve Combinations
Pick from 12 velocity curves to precisely match your playing style. As the PCRM80/M50/M30 has 4 different velocity curves and 3 kinds of sensitivity (Light, Medium, and Heavy), the player can find the combination that perfectly suits them and can produce the precise MIDI performance and programming of a true professional.
In addition a Fixed Velocity Mode is provided where the PCR-M80/M50/M30 always outputs a fixed velocity (from 1 to 127) providing practical input for drum and percussion programming in step recording.
PCR Editor software and Downloadable Memory Sets (Control Maps) on the web
The PCR series keyboards work with all major music applications, and are equipped with user memory locations to store up to 15 different control maps. PCR Editor software for use with the EDIROL PCR Keyboard Series is included. The PCR Editor allows for extensive and convenient control of the PCR keyboards from a PC or Mac. The PCR Editor is designed to assist in creating control maps for the PCR and allow users to quickly and easily make assignments to any of the 27 assignable controls. This powerful software also allows the user to copy system exclusive messages for the PCR into a sequence so the controls can be mapped or changed during a sequence. In addition to offering easy implementation of different MIDI messages, the PCR Editor also allows the user to specify minimum and maximum values for each control. Supports Win98/Me/2000/XP, Mac OS X & Mac OS 9.x.

Best Action
The PCR's have the best key action of any USB MIDI Keyboard Controller in its class. They have individually spring-loaded keys and felt lining under the keyboard for an expressive and consistent playability. This design also allows for tighter key constraints, so there is less side-to-side play in the key. Our earlier model, the PC-300 was touted as being the “best-feeling” USB keyboard in Electronic Musician earlier in 2002 - the PCR's are even better.
Numerous Powerful Control Combinations
Both of the PCR keyboards offer control capabilities beyond those typically found in other keyboards. The PCR's have an Expression Pedal connection. They have 34 controls of various types (knobs, sliders, buttons, wheel) of which 27 are fully assignable (8 sliders, 8 knobs, 9 buttons, 1 expression pedal, 1 sustain pedal). The Pitch/Modulation control has also been re-designed for tighter precision.
Control All MIDI Messages
The PCR's can control all MIDI signals. Other USB MIDI Keyboard Controllers extended controls can only be assigned to “Control Change” messages. The PCR's 27 assignable controls can be assigned to anything MIDI. This includes Note information, Control Change, RPN, NRPN, Timing Clock, Program Change, SysEx, etc. The PCR's are the only USB MIDI Keyboard Controllers that can be assigned to control any MIDI device in a user's setup, with or without your computer.
“Sweet Spot” Control of Parameters
In addition to being able to assign controls to any MIDI signal, the PCR's also allow the user to specify the range of control. For example, if you are changing the Cutoff & Resonance, but really only like the effect when the cutoff is between 37 & 89, you can set the lower and upper parameter limits to 37 & 89. The PCR's let the user work just the “sweet spot” of their parameters.
Rapid Memory Set and Recall
The PCR's can be re-mapped in a matter of seconds for quick changes in even the most demanding performance situation. With 15 assignable Memory sets and 1 GM static Memory set, the PCR's are ready to control any MIDI device at the change of a button. In addition to the internal memory sets, the control settings of the PCR can be dumped between the computer and the keyboard, so you can save unlimited control configurations, and collaborate with other PCR users all over the world.
Downloadable Presets
The PCR's already have control maps for most popular sequencing & audio programs. More control maps will become available as the PCR's user base grows. You can find new control maps added all the time at http://edirol.com/products/info/pcr/control_maps.html
1-in & 1-out MIDI Interface
The PCR's are designed with an integrated 1x1 MIDI interface. Most competing keyboards have MIDI Out, but lack the necessary MIDI Input connector to make a full connection to another keyboard or MIDI device. This feature of the PCR's allows for greater expandability in the studio.
Powerful Software Editor
The PCR-Editor greatly simplifies the process to create control maps for the PCR. It also allows you to save your control maps & share them with other PCR users. The PCR's are the only line of keyboards with such an extensive software controller.
V-Link Video Preset
The PCR's are designed with a V-Link setting that allows instant and real-time control of high-quality Digital Video via the Edirol DV-7PR. Not other desktop controller has been designed with the forethought and tight integration with the visual domain.
As this summary displays, the PCR's set a new standard in USB MIDI Keyboard Controller and are well on their way to becoming the controller of choice for computer musicians.
