I just got this and I was surprised at how trebley this unit is. I have to play it with the tone control all the way down and then crack it up a notch. It was the same for single coils as well as humbuckers. It gradually goes into distortion at about 12 o-clock and kinda sounded weak and to sizzley. I have owned many amps, but this was very weak in the bass and like I said, too much top end. I guess that whoever designed this has some upper register hearing loss. I thought I would try it with another speaker cabinet and now I had the lows and the top end was tamed a little, but still unbalanced. I figure it is the cheap speaker that they put in there and I was going to replace it with a better speaker, but the amp chassis hangs down too low and close to the speaker magnet to put anything else in there. I guess it is better than nothing- I had the Epi Valve Junior and I wanted to mod this platform like I did to the Epi. Having a 10 inch speaker made me hope for better lows and I know that it will improve with time and use to 'break in' the speaker. I am tempted to put an 8 inch in there that would sound better and would fit the cabinet. I will dig in and see what I can do. Out of the box, I was not impressed. But I 'need to mod' to be happy, so I will accept the challenge.
