I've had the Celviano AP-500 for three months and couldn't be happier. For reference I consider myself an experienced but not particularly gifted pianist: 10 years of classical training followed by 6 as a high school and collegiate accompanist. I was playing some Ravel and Debussy on an upright last weekend for the first time in a long time and doing so crystallized how solid an instrument the AP-500 is. I looked at console digitals because I don't have space or budget for a grand piano, and never played an upright that I didn't feel was a big compromise. My basic electronic piano criteria were: 88 weighted keys, three attached pedals, living-room quality appearance, NO lighted keys (a perverse gimmick), and sufficiently recent design to include USB connection and SecureDigital interface -- no obsolete SmartMedia or 3.5 floppy devices. I chose the Celviano because I thought the Grand Piano sounds #1 and 3 were rich and solid without being flowery (listen to the GarageBand pianos for illustrations of flowery -- they become annoying after about a minute). I also liked the look and the color of the cabinet. The harpsichord, organ, some of the guitars, and banjo are also quite good (and OK, some of the drums too). In my opinion, the rest of the 100+ instruments on this or any other keyboard are fun for a few minutes but are actually useless to a pianist. If your music is all about the freaky helicopter and space sounds, you're going to be hooked up to a computer through something like GarageBand and not using the esoterica in the keyboard itself--and you can do that with a much less expensive or more portable keyboard. The Celviano's tone and touch are excellent, and while it has a ton of features that are probably best suited to studio use, the features I use at home are easy to access--a couple of instruments, the metronome, the recording features, the secure digital card slot. It has much more dynamic range (softer softs-louder louds) than an upright and a smooth, consistent weighted action, and while the speakers are excellent and have especially good power, headphones sounds absolutely fabulous too. The MusiciansBuy deal included shipping, a nice bench, and a nice set of headphones. The piano was drop-shipped from a Casio warehouse and arrived in a huge coffin-size box. The headphones and bench were sent from MusiciansBuy in Florida and were both as good as I would have purchased had I bought them separately myself. The bench is black, and looks nice enough, but it would be perfect if it matched the
