The KSM44SL is a multiple pattern (cardioid, omnidirectional, bidirectional),
externally biased, dual large diaphragm condenser microphone with extremely
low self-noise (7dB). Developed to meet the needs of studio recording musicians,
the warm, rich sound of the KSM44 delivers exceptional performance, tailored
to deliver vivid reproduction of voice for the most critical recordings. The
KSM44 also offers great flexibility in a variety of recording applications,
working well on acoustic and amplified instruments, as its capacity for managing
high SPLs accommodates loud sound sources such as drums and guitar amplifiers.

APPLICATIONS
The KSM44/SL is designed as a premium vocal microphone for studio recording.
Microphone use, however, is a matter of personal taste. Here is a non-exhaustive

I recently purchased two Shure KSM344SL studio microphones along with four other microphones, two of them lesser Shure's and two of them Apex 435's. After extensive testing, I ended up setting aside the lesser Shure's and the Apex microphones, writing off the expense of getting them as the cost of doing business. Compared to the KSM344SL's, the only thing those other microphoness did was make noise. These KSM344SL's are absolutely fantastic microphones, very sensitive, very low noise, and capture the sound of my piano perfectly. The only thing negative is that they are somewhat heavy and if I extend the microphone stand's boom all the way, I have to hang something on the stub end to balance out the weight (the carrying cases the KSM344SL's come with do a nice job at this). I would like four microphones, at least, to pick up the full spectrum of sound coming off the piano, so I am thinking of getting another pair of these Shure KSM344SL's and quitting my fooling around with anything else.
The best mic for the money on the planet! Ultra quiet! Built like a tank! Clean, accurate sound! I am running mine with an FMR pre/comp combo and WOW! It sounds like an 87 with a Millenia behind it! I will be buying another one soon!! Look out stereo applications! Shure has knocked one out of the ballpark with it's flagship condenser! THANK YOU SHURE! AND IT IS MADE IN THE USA! WOOOOOHOOOO!! Take that you cheap, Chinese clones and uber-expensive German mics!
