A two year investigation into the
optimization of high output low frequency sound has yielded the LS1208 “basspipe”
subwoofer system. The "basspipe" is a multiple flare horn, connected to an
organ like pipe, slowly flaring to the mouth. The bandwidth is narrowed,
optimized to a specific range in the lower registers. Outdoor measurements show
very smooth, very high output in the 35Hz to 200Hz range. This is the highest
efficiency that we have ever seen for a single 18” driver enclosure, especially
with a gross volume of only 22 cubic feet. In addition, a significant gain is
achieved when using two units side by side as the mouth nears maximum acoustic
load.
Additional research has developed a woofer with significantly
higher power handling than any other speaker that we currently use, making the LS1208
one of the highest output subwoofers available at any price. Performance,
packaging, and overall value make the LS1208 a benchmark.
LS1208 Features
Suitable for touring or fixed
installations, the cabinets are constructed of 3/4" Canadian plywood (15mm
11-ply Birch for LS1208B) with heavy internal bracing for reduced
resonance and better durability. The enclosure is covered in a black carpet
covering and incorporates metal corner protectors, rugged curved anti-resonant
metal grilles, and 1/4" or Speakon™ input connectors. An optional finish of
black ultrathane paint (LS1208B) is also available. Additionally, the
Speakon™ connectors feature a configuration switch which allows instant
reversal of Speakon™ jack pinouts for easy single wire hook-up using optional
four wire Speakon™ cables.

PROS: This sub hits harder than anything you can possibly imagine. They hit harder than ANYTHING in its price range and harder than most everything out of its price range. Trust me, I have field tested just about every sub manufacture out there. The first time I cranked these up I felt as if I just had a life altering experience. They growl at you and call you a sissy when you look at them! I bought my 1208 s about 2 years ago and have used them weekly or roughly 100 times since. The construction and build quality are unbeatable and at nearly 200pds Yorkville was nice enough to add casters. I push these using a Yorkville 6040 Amp rated at1200watts@8ohms which works excellent. Now down to what you really want to know How hard can you push these? I will never know .they never distort, my amp clip lights have never activated even with heavy rock or rap beats. I have used these inside rooms the size of an average garage and as large as any 500-800 person hall. I have battle tested these speakers at some great outdoor venues and I have never at the end of the night said, Gee I wish I had more bass. These are the Bottom Line of the Bottom End ..ENJOY Great Speaker for Bands, Mobile DJ s, Installed systems Notable: I have dual 15in Yorkville full range speakers that work well with these subs and have the capability to drive these full range cabinets at 2000 watts per channel. I have also used these with single 15in speakers and a 300 watt per channel amp and I was very satisfied with the overall sound and projection in a large hall. I bought the Yorkville 2152 processor and used it in conjunction with an EQ but after trying the DBX Driverack PA I had to switch because it was like adding a supercharger to my overall sound ..Zero 60HZ hum .Zero Feedback. CONS: You must have the means to transport them. They are heavy to lift and I would suggest you have some help when you do. I have had to take a few doors (single door, not double doors) off the hinges to get them into venues. You gotta protect your hearing with these. Some of the sound pressure levels I have experienced have done really bad things to my ears. You need to invest in a good EQ and crossover network to make these work properly .chances are you know that already.
