What's so special about Spider Valve™ MkII amplifiers?
Spider Valve™ MkII guitar amplifiers are the best of both worlds. The boutique-style, all-tube designs combine with award-winning modeling to deliver muscular tube tone and unsurpassed sonic flexibility.
These amps boast 16 of the most advanced Line 6 amp models, over 20 stunning effects (from simple pleasures like velvety reverbs and juicy delays to deep cuts like Smart Harmony and a 14-second sound-on-sound looper), unparalleled routing options, an arsenal of inputs and outputs including MIDI, Celestion® Vintage 30 speakers and the list goes on. Plus, they have every tube enthusiast's seal of approval: a preamp and power amp designed by Reinhold Bogner.
Is Spider Valve MkII a true tube amplifier?
That's a fair question.
Many amplifiers on the market today masquerade as "tube" amplifiers and try to sell you on a perceived level of sonic integrity. Sadly, in many cases they are selling what we think of as "marketing tubes": tubes that run at such low voltages that they cannot possibly be impacting the sound of the amps. At Line 6, we are proud of our modeling so when we decide to integrate tube amplification into our products we won't settle for some inauthentic marketing gimmick.
So, to answer your question: yes, Spider Valve MkII is a tried-and-true, 100% authentic tube amplifier. Its preamp and power amp were designed by Reinhold Bogner, a tube-amp legend with legions of maniacally loyal fans. The 12AX7 preamp and 6L6 power amp run at lethal voltages to produce exceptional tonal depth, coloration and richness. (Seriously, do NOT stick your fingers in the tube sockets.)

What configurations of Spider Valve MkII amplifiers are available?
Spider Valve MkII 112 is a 40-watt 1x12 combo; Spider Valve MkII 212 is a 40-watt 2x12 combo. Both combos feature a pair of 12AX7s in the preamp, a matched pair of 6L6s in the power amp and Celestion® Vintage 30 speakers. Spider Valve MkII HD100 is a powerful 100-watt head with a pair of 12AX7s in the preamp and four matching 6L6s in the power amp. (Spider 412VS cabs are the ideal choice for Spider Valve MkII HD100.)
What are "matched" power tubes?
Matched power tubes are tubes that draw an equal amount of power during operation. Unmatched tubes can cause an uneven drain on the amplifier and can result in poor performance, poor audio quality and possibly even amplifier damage.
Can I use a foot controller with Spider Valve MkII amplifiers?
Yes! FBV™ MkII foot controllers are the perfect match for Spider Valve MkII amplifiers. FBV Express™ MkII provides channel switching, volume/wah control, tap tampo and a chromatic tuner display. FBV Shortboard™ MkII provides all that and more with effect on/off, preset scroll, an expression pedal input and more!
Plus, FBV MkII foot controllers can update Spider Valve MkII amplifiers with exciting future upgrades and expansions!
A tube amp with firmware upgrades?
That's right. In a revolutionary feat, Line 6 has developed the first tube amp that can be upgraded via USB! Via FBV™ MkII foot controllers, Spider Valve MkII amplifiers can be easily updated with Line 6 firmware releases, upgrades and expansions. (You can also update via MIDI.)
What's manual mode?
Manual mode is for players who desire a more traditional amplifier experience.
· Out of manual mode, choosing an amp model dictates the settings of the other front-panel knobs (EQ, Drive, FX, etc)
· In manual mode, choosing an amp model does not dictate the settings of the other front-panel knobs.
What are some of the top features in Spider Valve MkII amplifiers?
Spider Valve MkII amplifiers have a lot of top features. We're very excited about the MIDI connectivity, which lets Spider Valve MkII amplifiers integrate seamlessly into popular MIDI control systems. We're excited about Quick Loop, which allows for 14-seconds of sound-on-sound looping time. We're excited about the new pitch effects like Smart Harmony and Pitch Glide, the Noise Gate, the custom Boost settings and so much more.
What's Quick Loop?
Quick Loop is a 14-second sound-on-sound looper that can be used in a number of cool ways.
· Quick Loop can help you write songs, practice solos, jam and more. Routing Quick Loop "post" the amp model lets you record and play over multiple guitar parts. For example you can record a clean rhythm track, loop it, choose a lead tone, and then rip solos over the clean rhythm track.
· Running Quick Loop "pre" the amp model lets you audition your guitar tone. You can play a riff, loop it, take your hands off the guitar, and then dial in your tone while the loop plays back. This is a great Line 6 innovation!
· FBV MkII foot controllers make using Quick Loop a snap! Control the looper with your feet and keep your hands on your guitar!
What are the new pitch effects?
Smart Harmony and Pitch Glide are the new pitch effects.
· Smart Harmony is worth the price of admission! Fast-tracking and easy-to-use, Smart Harmony intelligent pitch shifter lets you turn your 6-string into a 12-string and so much more. You can harmonize using major, minor, pentatonic major, pentatonic minor, whole tone and diminished scales (but you don't have to know music theory to use it).
· Pitch Glide is most effectively used with an FBV MkII foot controller. Use the foot pedal to smoothly shift your tone up or down to any interval within a four-octave range. This effect can be calibrated to semitones (half steps) or even in 10-cent increments to create cool chorus/detuning effects.
Is the Noise Gate adjustable?
The fully adjustable Noise Gate includes an adjustable low-pass filter (called NR, in the amp) and its settings can be customized within any preset.
What's Boost?
Boost gives you the perfect punch of volume to make your solos really pop. Customize Boost settings within either (or both) the pre and post gain (up to +8 dB)!
