II cabinet/microphone modeling which allows you to choose from 4 different classic mic models and even adjust how much of the room sound you hear! There's even a dedicated studio-quality compressor. POD XT even has a USB digital in/out for direct digital computer recording. And its flash-based memory means easy upgrades to keep your POD XT on the cutting edge.
With 128 user/factory presets, many based on some of the most popular guitar songs ever recorded, you'll have instant access to an unbelievable collection of classic guitar rigs. POD ® XT is equipped to handle today's guitar recording needs. Our 24-bit converters and 32-bit floating point processing create a killer tone, delivered through +4dBu balanced or -10dBV unbalanced 1/4 inch connectors. Or go digital with POD XT 's USB digital audio in and out for the most incredible tone available. MIDI lets you automate every move and our optional FBV generation foot controllers let you do it all with your feet. POD XT also comes with a high-power headphone output for silent jamming.
Creating Your Perfect Tone
While the presets, many of which are song based, are a great place to start looking for a great tone, sometimes you just want to roll your own. Critical tone controls are available as knobs on the main panel, but POD® XT also offers an intuitive, incredibly easy to use screen display for deep patch editing, where any tone shaping parameter is easily accessed and changed to generate your own sonic character.
Above the PODXT's display you'll find 5 effect on/off buttons where you can instantaneously defeat or enable stompboxes or rack-type effects. Double pressing each button allows you to edit the effects settings. Single pressing seamlessly switches the effect on or off.
Comp (Gate)
This button accesses our model of a highly sought-after LA-2A® COMPRESSOR, as well as a lightning-fast NOISE GATE. You'll find a fully-adjustable threshold for each, as well as a completely variable decay time for the gate.
Stomp
This is where PODXT's STOMPBOXES and vintage distortion models live. There are 10 classic stompboxes ranging from light overdrives, heavy distortions, and psychedelic 60's fuzzes. Whichever one you choose, you'll have complete control over the Drive, Gain and Tone knobs.
Mod
PODXT comes with all the classic flavors of MODULATION like Chorus, Flanger, Phaser, Tremolo, Rotary and Vibe. Chorus like Andy, flange like Eddie, vibe like Jimi... it's all there.
Delay
PODXT has faithful models of vintage tape echoes to modern marvels like tap-tempo stereo ping-pongs. You can adjust the delay time in milliseconds or by any note value you choose. Just like the original POD™, you can easily TAP in a song's tempo, and now you also have tap tempo control over modulation speeds. Imagine changing the speed of your tremolo along with your delay time right from the front panel - or via your foot using the optional FBV Shortboard.
Cab/AIR
To top it off you can mix and match speaker cabinets, microphones (and even mic placement!) in the CABINET section. PODXT's next generation speaker cabinet models include all the historic speaker types you've come to know and love. You'll swear you're hearing the paint rattle off the studio walls thanks to Line 6's all new A.I.R. II technology.
Plus…
Reverb
PODXT gives you a full-time reverb knob just like your old standby. But in addition to the authentic spring tanks, you now have everything from vintage Plate reverbs to cavernous Halls.
Model Packs dramatically expand the tone arsenal in your POD XT . How do I get the Version 2 firmware update?
There is a new software utility for POD XT and POD XT Pro called “Line 6 Monkey.” In short, get this utility and “the Monkey” will walk you through the rest.
When you fire up this software on your Mac ® OS X ® or Windows ® computer, it will look at all Line 6 Software installed on your computer and any Line 6 device attached to your computer via USB or MIDI and display the version of drivers, software and firmware you have in your whole rig. If you are connected to the Internet, it will look online and tell you if updates or optional accessories are available. You can get the latest versions of any software component and/or purchase accessories by following the onscreen instructions.
Get the Monkey here.
What are "Model Packs"?
Model Packs are collections of additional amp and effect models that can be added to your Line 6 POD XT or POD XT Pro. No new hardware is required, the packs are installed via software download from an Internet connected computer connected to the USB jack on your POD XT or POD XT Pro.
To find out more about Model Packs, click here .
I have a POD XT - can I upgrade it to Version 2?
Yes – the Version 2 upgrade is a FREE download for all registered POD XT users. It can be installed over USB using the Line 6 Monkey – a free “intelligent updater” application for Windows ® and Mac ® OS X ® . Get the Monkey here .
What does the Version 2 update cost?
Absolutely nothing – the Version 2 upgrade is a FREE download for all registered POD XT users.
Will POD XT Version 2 change the sound of my existing presets?
Yes. Perhaps the most significant change in the new POD XT firmware (and GuitarPort software) is that all cabinet and microphone models have been replaced. The new cabs & mics sound much better, but that also means that presets you've written with the old cabs may need some tweaking once you get the new stuff installed. After some tweaking, your presets should sound basically the same in character, but overall “better.”
We didn't take this fact lightly. It was end user feedback that caused us to look again at some of the methodology for creating the old cab and mic models and while the old models sound great, we think the new ones sound even better. The addition of the per-patch Post EQ will help sculpt the sound to match the character of your old presets if you find that things have changed significantly.
Can I use the old POD XT Updater utility to load the Version 2 firmware?
No. The old firmware loader utility is incompatible with the way the new firmware deals with patches. A translation process is required if you choose to keep your patches and only the Line 6 Monkey can do this translation.
Is an Internet Connection required to load the Version 2 firmware into my POD XT ?
No. You will obviously need a connection to get the Line 6 Monkey – the new updater application – and the firmware itself, but a live connection is not required during the installation process. It is, for instance, possible to download the Monkey and the firmware on an Internet connected computer, burn it onto a CD and then use another computer to load it into your POD XT .
What if I don't like the new POD XT Version 2 firmware?
We really hope that won't happen, but if you're not satisfied, you can easily go back. If you don't like the new version 2 POD XT firmware, you can go back to a previous version using the “Rollback” button in the Line 6 Monkey intelligent updater application.
What is "Line 6 Monkey"?
“Line 6 Monkey” is a new intelligent updater for your Line 6 hardware or software product. Just plug in your Line 6 product via USB to a computer with a live Internet connection. Start up the Monkey and it will tell you exactly what Line 6 software is installed in your computer and what firmware is installed in your Line 6 hardware product. If updates or optional software accessories are available online, the Monkey will let you know and give you the ability to perform an update or purchase the accessory from within this app.
Can I install Model Packs into a POD XT without first updating the firmware in the unit?
No – Model Packs require POD XT version 2.0 firmware or later.
Does GuitarPort work with POD XT 's and POD XT Pro's that have been upgraded to Version 2?
Playing back tracks and using GuitarPort Online functions properly with a POD XT or POD XT Pro that has the Version 2 upgrade. GuitarPort will not, however, be able to properly display parameters related to new features such as post-EQ and new amp models. In addition, GuitarPort's Tone Locker may not function as expected with the new 128 patch preset bank.
We expect to release an updated version of GuitarPort that is fully compatible with the POD XT Version 2 upgrade in the not too distant future, but a date for this software release has not yet been announced. In the meantime, feel free to use GuitarPort even with these limitations, and note that Line 6 Edit fully supports POD XT Version 2 and offers excellent visual editing and management of POD XT tones. To learn more about Line 6 Edit, our free software editor/librarian which supports direct transfer of tones from our vast online tone library, visit www.customtone.com .
Please note that installing GuitarPort will remove the USB drivers that are compatible with POD XT or POD XT Pro Version 2 firmware and the latest supporting software. If you install GuitarPort after installing the new USB drivers, you must launch the Line 6 Monkey application and reinstall the latest USB drivers to correct this problem.
