There are cheaper systems available, but the compromises are really not worth it. We use these speakers in all but the most demanding concert situations and have never had anything but compliments. Absolutely no comparison with any of the plastic competitors. These are made with high quality wood and it's a bi-amped system and are in a league by themselves.

I use it as an amp for my 5-string bass guitar. It doesn't have a ton of low end but it is clearer and more detailed than most bass amps (certainly any at this price). And it definitely can put out some volume. it sounds louder than the rated power. Of course it also feels a little heavier than 49 lbs too but I can live with that.
