APEX APEXDP2 DetailsApex-DP2 Overview The best way to mic a drum kit is with a combination of specialized dynamic and condenser microphones. The six microphones in the Apex-DP2 Drum Pack have been specifically selected to provide the most complete and comprehensive micing system for a standard 5-piece drum set. The Apex-DP2 is also the ideal starting point for building a microphone package for an extended drum kit. The popular Apex125 and Apex126 microphones handle the vital kick and snare drums respectively. Ideally suited to handling the high SPL and extended low frequencies that most bass drums can produce, the Apex125 's element is protected in a solid zinc die-cast outer casing and can easily handle 165dB SPL at the input. Made of a rugged zinc die-cast casing to protect the mic's elements from the occasional stick hit that is inevitable over a drumhead, the Apex126 is the perfect blend of performance and toughness. A cardioid polar pattern offers maximum rejection 180 degrees off axis, handling high SPL with a minimum of cross talk in the drum mix. The three Apex165 microphones included in the Apex-DP2 pack handle the high SPL you would expect when close micing a tom. Their miniature design comes complete with shockmount assembly and gooseneck clamp, perfect for safe attachment to any drum rim without damaging or breaking the chrome or lacquer. It's unobtrusive, easy to attach to any instrument and almost impossible to accidentally dislodge, even during enthusiastic live performances. The final microphone that makes up the Apex-DP2 is a single Apex190 stubby pencil condenser cardioid microphone. Ideal for use as an overhead mic over the full drum kit, or for close micing on hi-hats or splash cymbals. The six individual microphones in the Apex-DP2 are shipped in a molded carrying case with the specialized clips for use on and around the drum set.
The APEX165 is particularly suited for many different types of instruments including sax, trumpet, trombone, woodwinds, acoustic (especially classical) guitars and drums. It has also been successfully utilized (with user modifications to the clamp assembly) on violins and violas, accordions and ducilmers. Don't let its size fool you. This microphone handles the high SPL you would expect when close micing a tom or brass wind instrument. The APEX165 's miniature design comes complete with shockmount assembly and gooseneck clamp, perfect for safe attachment to brass instruments, conga rims and drum rims without damaging or breaking the chrome or lacquer. It''s unobtrusive, easy to attach to any instrument and almost impossible to accidentally dislodge, even during enthusiastic live performances. The APEX190 is a professional, stubby flat-frequency response cardioid condenser microphone suited to many applications. It can be used as a source microphone for choirs, for string sections, background brasses or drum overheads. It also works extremely well on acoustic guitars, in tight on hi-hats, or for solo string or woodwind instruments. The mic is enclosed in a rugged, low reflectance matte black finish making it ideal for instrument micing in any studio, broadcast or live applications where a high performance overhead mic is required. The APEX190 requires phantom power to operate, and is shipped with a microphone clip and windsock. The APEX125 is ideally suited to handling the high SPL and extended low frequencies that most bass drums can produce. The mic''s elements are protected in a solid zinc die cast outer casing for additional protection, and can easily handle 165dB SPL at the input. The hypercardioid polar pattern offers maximum sound rejection from 180 degrees off axis, or the back of the microphone. The tight hypercardioid pattern also provides improved isolation from other instruments on the stage or bleed from other instruments in and around the kit. Extended low frequency response and a smooth response curve ensure a natural, punchy and clean signal from the bass drum. APEX126 Overview Ideally suited for the demanding job of micing the snare and toms, the APEX126 is designed from the ground up for drum kit. Made of a rugged zinc die cast casing to protect the mic's elements from the occasional stick hit that is inevitable over a drumhead. The APEX126 has a cardioid polar pattern offering maximum rejection 180 degrees off axis and can easily handle up to 145dB SPL at the input. The tight cardioid pickup pattern also helps the front-of-house engineer further define the drum mix by separating the toms from crosstalk between mics. This becomes more and more important as the mic signal is often used to trigger any of the drum modules currently in the marketplace, as well as feed the front of house drum mix cleanly and with definition. It comes equipped with a rubber shock-absorbing clip made for mounting on the drum rim. This clip is solid, designed not to shift position or to damage the drum's chrome or brass rim.
